Born and raised in central Ohio, Ashley Shellhause currently lives in Simi Valley, California. She received her MFA in painting and drawing from Miami University, and her BA in art and visual communications from Otterbein University. She is a member of the Thousand Oaks Art Association, the Los Angeles Art Association, and the Abstract Art Collective. Currently, she teaches art at the College of the Canyons in Valencia, California.
Ashley is best known for creating large scale acrylic paintings that emphasize materials and process. Her painting practice is heavily influenced by the stain painter Helen Frankenthaler, action painters like Jackson Pollock, and the patterns and figures of Robert Kushner.
